Gil Perez

If you don't give up on yourself, work long and hard, you can stay in this business. That's what Gil has done. Gil started out at KWRM Corona, CA as a weekend disc jockey. After getting out of radio, he restarted his career by getting at job as a board operator at KEZY AM/FM Anaheim, CA. Gil moved up first to be a weekend overnight DJ, then added title of Operations Manager of KPZE 1190AM.

Later he became the fulltime overnight air personality at 95.9 KEZY. Gil assisted Steve Smith (then, former PD of Y96 Santa Barbara, CA) with recording music and production elements for the launch of Hot 97-7 KHQT San Jose, CA. "The work was done at KEZY so our company could surprise the other stations in the market", explained Gil. "I was there when the station first flipped to CHR. It blew away the market!"

In the little spare time he had, Gil was also the producer of "Viewpoints", KOST Los Angeles' man-on-the-street opinion feature. After a long period of working 14 hour days, Gil left KEZY and joined the production staff at KOST 103.1 fulltime. In 1995 he returned as a weekend air personality at 95.9 KEZY, much to the delight of some his longtime listeners. When he's not working at KOST and getting his picture taken with celebrities, Gil spends his spare time teaching part-time in the Fullerton College radio program.
